Inside of Kilmainham Gaol's main cell block. Built in 1798 as a reform prison, it played a central role in many of Ireland's major historical events. This included a pivotal role in the Easter Rising, where twelve of the leaders were executed here, which helped turn public opinion against the English.

Mussenden Temple from Downhill
Water pours off the cliffs above the beach, after a heavy rainstorm. Atop the cliff is the Mussenden Temple. It was built as a library in 1785 and modeled after the Temple of Vesta in Italy.

Kilkenny Castle
Kilkenny Castle was finished in 1213 by William Marshal, a few years after Kilkenny became a town. The castle was occupied until 1935, when the Butler family moved to London. The Butlers eventually sold the castle to Kilkenny in 1965 for 50 pounds.

Rock of Cashel
The famous buildings atop it were not built until the 12th and 13th centuries. The Cathedral was sacked in 1647 during the Irish Confederate Wars, and more than 1,000 people were slaughtered
